Psychotherapy

I believe that therapy offers us a wonderful opportunity to safely explore our inner and outer worlds; to compassionately investigate the reasons behind the decisions we make (and keep making) and to figure out what might be getting in the way of opening ourselves up to new possibilities.

If you find yourself wishing you had more confidence, better boundaries and closer friendships, a more harmonious family life and a deeper (perhaps more passionate) connection with the partner you have, or hope to find, then therapy could help.

Mindfulness (or awareness of the present moment) is key to accessing the path to a happier, calmer, and more fulfilling day to day experience of life – but staying present when life is busy and your mind is racing and your body is stressed, is no easy ask. It can feel scary and counter-intuitive to acknowledge the state you’re in, so even though we suspect that we’d benefit in some way from allowing our feelings to just be; we tend to switch into tried and tested distraction techniques that temporarily block our ability to feel anything at all. And so we learn nothing and nothing changes.

Therapy will provide you with strategies to help you come back to the present moment so that you can notice what you habitually and often unconsciously do instead of processing emotions. Once you’ve recognised the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviour – connected the dots so to speak, you will be able to see that you have choices; that you’re not doomed to rinse and repeat the same cycle for the rest of time. You are free to look at your life from a new persepective.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me and we can arrange a time to talk over the phone or I’m happy to reply by email.

Fees and T&Cs

  • A therapy session lasts one hour. Each session costs £80.
  • Online sessions are available at the same cost.
  • There is a 48-hour cancellation policy. This means if you have to cancel a session for any reason at all, within 48 hours of the time booked, you will be asked to pay for the session. If you can’t get to the office for some reason, you may wish to have your session on FaceTime or over the phone.

Psychotherapy FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

The answer depends on what you hope to get from therapy. You may find you get what you need in a few sessions, a few months or a few years. You will only be required to book one session at a time so it will be up to you how many or how few sessions you have.

My problems might not be serious enough.

If you’re struggling with something and you don’t feel as though you have the skills or resources or experience or time to resolve it alone – then you’re entitled to ask for help. If my tap sprung a leak I would call a plumber immediately rather than wait for the leak to become a flood. The earlier the intervention, the better.

I can’t come every week.

You may book every other week if that suits you better.

Can I get it through my private medical insurance?

I’m afraid not. I am not registered with WPA.

Are my secrets safe with you?

Yes. They really are. Confidentiality is one of the commitments I make to you in my professional role as your therapist. The only time I’d break that commitment is if you revealed that you or someone you knew was hurting or planning to hurt a child or vulnerable person, as required by law.

Will you make/keep notes or recordings of my sessions?

No. I have a super-brain! Well, at least I tend to remember what I need to and I can always ask you to jog my memory if I forget a detail or two. This feels safer than risking your private thoughts being potentially read or ‘used in evidence’. If you would like me to make notes, or record our sessions, I’m happy to oblige.

If I wanted to make a complaint about you, how would I go about that?

I practice by a professional code of ethics and answer to my professional body (National Register of Hypno-Psychotherapists or NHRP). You may contact them here if you have any questions about me or would like to make a complaint.
